Personal stationery, I feel, is important. And I’m not talking about the kind you picked up from the bookstore or ordered online with the cute pattern or whatever. Personal stationery. The kind with your name on it. The kind that doesn’t really exist today.
Even rarer? Personal stationery that’s used on a daily basis for all correspondence. If you are lucky enough to have a personal stationery set, most people reserve its use for special occasions. For only the most important communications.
I want to share with you recently completed stationery I did for my husband, Victor. Victor wears distinctive glasses, hence the frames.
I took the photos with my iPhone so they are by no means glorious. Paper is 25% cotton, business cards are a textured 120# cover stock and envelopes are recycled.

What do you think?
Update: I’ve had a lot of questions about where I purchased this stationery and to answer your question, I made this! It came from Doth Brands (my advertising agency)—www.dothbrands.com. It’s not an advertised service, but this is where it came from.

I have been trying lately to actually USE my special items, like nice stationery, my “good” jewelry, dishes, scented candles, etc. rather than saving them for some possibly warranted future occasion. I think your custom stationery is a fantastic example for enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Stephanie- I am the same way. I use our ‘good’ cloth napkins at dinner most nights, pull out the tablecloths on the weekends and wear my ‘fancy’ jewelry and clothes whenever I feel so inclined.
No point in ‘saving’ these items.
Glad to hear from you on SE!

I used to be a person who put the “good” stuff aside and then realised one day that if the ‘good’ stuff isn’t ‘good’ enough for my nearest and dearest, then who was I keeping it for? The Queen? On another note – we all tend to collect eclectic clutter throughout life which has to get sorted out by the relatives when we pass away. I found this little ditty which has subtly changed my mindset on such things: “Do your giving, while you’re living, for then you’re knowin’, when it’s goin’.” Besides – gifts giving brings such joy, that I like to see the results.
Forgot to mention – perhaps I am a little odd in this but when it comes to writing a letter, I think every letter is special. Thus there are several choices to be made: choice of paper, embellishments, colour ink or choice of pen, for eaxample; my mum loves roses so my current letter to her is on rose stationery, written with a scented pink/purple ink, with little glitter dots on the corners and the envelope is one I made from a gorgeous rose scrapbook card. I know she will appreciate the thought that went into it and my choices based on her likes, tastes, experiences etc. Wouldn’t it be great if we all got mail ‘tailored’ for us personally and individually?
Kathleen- I approach a letter the same way. I pick out the paper, the envelope, the enclosures–all of that depending on the recipient.
I love your description of your rose-themed letter to your Mum. Delightful.
I love this idea! But, what do you do when you don’t feel you have a style as cool as Victor?
Nancy! You found Simplicity Embellished! We are lucky to have you.
Victor does have pretty awesome style, doesn’t he? If you are not sure what to do style-wise you should contact me and let me do a letterhead design for you! ;)
Or anyone! Anyone want a Cole-designed personal letterhead?
I love the idea of personalised stationary. I have set up my own a few months ago and I love using it. Seeing the one you designed, gives me new ideas. Thanks for the inspriations.
Marcus- I would love to see what yours looks like. Personal stationery fascinates me. I find it varies greatly from person to person and I love to see what people prefer; different papers to colors to printing processes.
Wow! The stationary is amazing!!! Where did you order them from? Hopefully they won’t cost a fortune. I would love to have such stationary for sandbook. It will be cute, wouldn’t it? :)
Hi Raia!
Thank you! The stationery comes from Doth Brands…..AKA me! We do custom stationery in-house. It’s not something we advertise, but it’s something we have the capability to do–primarily an employee perk. ;)
I have recently been looking into choosing a “signature” ink for myself. My favourite colour is green which all those nearest and dearest to me know, so whilst I could never restrict myself to one type of writing paper or font or pen, I thought perhaps my letters could all be written in a shade of green ink. Now … just to choose a few…. *sigh* So many inks, so little money! A variation on the ‘personal stationery’ theme.
