The TasteCasting Team Members are not professional food critics. Last week, I attended a TasteCasting session with a number of Cincinnati-loving foodies. We arrived to several plates full of these remarkable little savories:

This is a Caesar Salad Cup. The cup is made of Parmesan cheese.

Look at this:

Hello, Chicken Gumbo Soup. You were very flavorful and didn’t skimp on the veggies or chicken.

Oh, my oh my, here we have:

Mini crab cakes! These little guys are a feature on the catering menu as well and they were pretty good, as far as crab cakes in Cincinnati go. I wasn’t such a huge fan of the sauce, but everyone seemed to like it. The outside of the crab cake was nice and crispy, which is important. A girl’s gotta have a crab cake with a little crunch!

And, my honest-to-g00dness favorite:

Goetta. Goetta is my favorite. I search it out at any restaurant I go to (although it’s basically impossible to find outside Cincinnati.) Goetta is a magical food here in Cincy; in fact, we dedicate an entire festival to it each summer called, what else, Goettafest! The Echo has a good standard goetta and they serve it with a nice and crisp on the outside, the way most Cincinnatians prefer it.

And for the grand finale, have I got a dreamboat for you….

The Flying Pig. This was definitely a big hit at the TasteCasting table, and rightly so. It was crazy, crazy good. Like ilicit drug good.
“Thick french toast stuffed with ham, bacon and swiss; served with powdered sugar and syrup to dip.”
They were light on the powdered sugar too, which made me and Susan Dugas, a fellow TasteCaster, happy.

If you’re like me, you might notice that they’ve updated their image a bit. If it’s been awhile since you’ve been to the Echo, you’ll notice that they’ve redecorated and freshened things up too. Maybe stop in and get a Flying Pig with a side of goetta for me?
